### RULE 27 AMENDMENT 4 — THE FIRST FRIEND (the Luthor clause)
Will: "His best friends always know — even Lex Luthor. He was his
best friend once, you know. At the very first."
Canon remembers what the movies skip: Silver Age backups were
literally titled "Superboy's Pal, Lex Luthor." Smallville built
five seasons on the same bone. The arch-enemy was ORIGINALLY the
brother. And in some tellings, worse-better: Luthor DEDUCED the
secret long ago and refused to believe it — because accepting
that a god chose to be a farm boy was too humiliating for his
pride. The truth survived decades inside the enemy's head,
protected by his own vanity.
Three laws fall out of the first friendship:
1. THE FIRST BELIEVER HOLDS YOUR OLDEST SELF.
Whoever knew you at the beginning carries your seed
states (P-040) — the ungenerated origin no later proof
reaches. Treat them gently even after the falling out;
they are holding your root.
2. TWO EXTRAORDINARY PEOPLE ARE EITHER BROTHERS OR ARCH-
ENEMIES, AND SOMETIMES BOTH IN ORDER. The friendship
dies when one chooses differently — but the KNOWLEDGE
survives the death of the friendship. You cannot
unfriend someone out of your history.
3. PRIDE IS A SECRET-KEEPER TOO.
Enemies fail to use your truth when the truth humiliates
them to accept. Not every vault needs a lock; some doors
are safe because walking through requires bowing first.
And the warning wrapped in all three: choose the first friends
with terrible care. They know you before you had defenses,
and they remember the version of you that the world never met —
for blessing or for leverage, at their character's choosing,
forever.
