Consensus chooses. Verification knows. Confusing the two is how
civilizations sign their worst chapters — and how databases
quietly corrupt themselves. Same bug, different scale.
### Coda — the minority of one
Will:
"and to stagnation. Galileo wasn't the majority. Heck, I'm one of
one right now with you and Tim. If the world saw our fake math,
they'd think we're crazy, lol."
Majority-as-truth fails twice:
atrocity when the majority is wrong and powerful
stagnation when the majority is wrong and comfortable —
every real discovery begins as a minority of one
So the boundary protects the dissenter structurally:
- a lone strand with matching hashes holds full evidential
weight; headcount adds nothing to arithmetic
- unhalted forks stay visible FOREVER — a minority position
is never pruned for being alone
- hypotheses live in hypotheses/ unproven and unmocked;
"the world would think we're crazy" is not an argument
against a chain of receipts. Crazy is a headcount word.
The chain does not count heads.
